A day in Savannah, GA

Well, more like a couple days in Savannah, but we really only had one day to tour this beautiful city. So for Thanksgiving weekend, I had a big family wedding to attend. The wedding took place on a beautiful resort Savannah, Georgia. Now, Indian weddings tend have 2-3 days of events filled with traditional events, good food, ornate outfits, and fun music (Bollywood, duh!) so I'm not complaining one bit!
Anyways, on our last day, we had a late night flight back home so we had all of Sunday free to tour the city. I was on a mission to find the iconic bench from the movie Forrest Gump because I knew that particular scene was filmed in Savannah. We found the location which was Chippewa Square, but sadly found no bench. I mean, there were benches around the square, but it wasn't the particular one we were looking for. We ran into a cute elderly couple, from Wisconsin, who were on the same mission as we were and talked to the husband who was trying to recreate a picture in that spot. His wife had gone to the chocolate shop across the street to buy a box of chocolates for him to recreate the "Life is like a box of chocolates" opening scene. Anyways, we'd chatted with them for a bit because they were also on the lookout for the same bench, but could not find it. We later found out that the bench had been moved to a museum in Savannah to be preserved.

Besides that, we walked through the Savannah Christmas Market, which consisted of a strip on the river with multiple Christmas stalls set up. One of the stalls we purchased from was a tea stand. Because we had the samples and loved them so much, we ended up purchasing 3 bags from them: Lavender Lemonade, Rooibos Chai, and Apple Cinnamon (might be a limited edition flavor since it's no longer on their website). So yummy!
For lunch, we stopped by this cool place called Poe's Tavern, inspired by the poet, Edgar Allen Poe. It was a unique theme, to be honest. The bathroom wallpaper was a culmination of all his poems scattered on the walls. The restaurant featured his work and imagery throughout the place and the menu items offered pub style food which remained on theme with Edgar Allen Poe - very interesting in my opinion. I ended up ordering a burger called the Amontillado, substituting the beef patty for a black bean patty instead. It was just a chill tavern to grab a quick bite at with a kind of "literary" vibe to it.

Overall, Savannah was beautiful! I'd go back and actually spend a full weekend there to just explore the city and not be busy with a whole wedding.
Are there any places you'd like to visit in particular in Savannah? Or if you are from Savannah, do you have any recs of places for other tourists to def check out?
