The ReHeat: The Chutney Life's Mushroom Cheesesteaks
Welcome to the very first post of my culinary section of the blog: The ReHeat! This is just where I post my recreations of recipes that I've tried from cookbooks, Pinterest, YouTube or Instagram. I mean... I might post some of my own original recipes, but for the most part, this is just me trying out recipes I've saved and always wanted to try!
The Chutney Life is an account I have been following on Instagram for over a few years now. Palak Patel is an Indian-American internet personality with a knack for cooking and adding an Indian twist to a lot of her creations. I received my copy of her cookbook as a gift a while back and decided to finally flip through and make something.
I'm a huge fan of mushrooms so the second I saw her Mushroom Cheesesteaks, I knew that was going to be the first thing to try.
Here are a few pics of the process and my recreation:
I had to make some adjustments of my own accordingly and substitute things with whatever I had. I didn't have actual shiitake mushrooms, so I ended up using the sliced white mushrooms I had with me in the fridge. I'm sure if I were to try this recipe again I would go out to get shiitake mushrooms because I think it would make a difference in taste and texture.
I also used a different bread than recommended, I just used French bread from the bakery section of my local grocery store.
Following the ingredients and measurements were key but because I used different mushrooms and I only made these for 2 people so I guess-timated my measurements and eyeballed. I also taste tested a lot of it and adjusted the flavoring to my liking.
Overall, I thought this was a fun recipe to recreate and satisfied whatever craving I had that day. I definitely think this was a sort of Bahn-Mi version of mushroom cheesestakes. I'm excited to try a bunch of other recipes from her cookbook, though!
